ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS
The body can manufacture (synthesize) most of the fats it needs. However,
two essential fatty acids; Linoleic Acid and Linolenic Acid cannot be manufactured(synthesized) in the body and must be obtained from an external Source mostly foods.
These basic fats found are used to build specialized fats called Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.
Fatty Acids are important for all Parts of the Body including the Skin,Respiratory System,Circulatory System,Brain development,Immune System ,Organs and Blood Pressure to function effectively.
OMEGA-3 FATTY ACID
When it comes to fat, there’s one type that should’nt be cut back on and that’s the omega-3 fatty acids.
Two crucial ones -EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and -DHA (Docosahexaenic Acid) are primarily found in certain fish.
ALA(alpha-linolenic acid), another omega-3 fatty acid, is found in plant sources such as nuts and seeds. Not only does your body need these fatty acids to function, they also deliver some big health benefits.
SOURCES OF OMEGA-3
When possible, try to get omega-3 fatty acids from foods rather than supplements. Aim to eat fish high in DHA( Docosahexaenic Acid) and EPA(Eicosapentaenoic Acid) omega-3 fatty acids, two to three times a week.

Rheumatoid Arthritis affects the lining of your Joints, causing a painful swelling that can eventually result in bone erosion and joint deformity. Omega-3 Supplements also seem to boost the effectiveness of anti inflammatory drugs, and Fish Oil Supplements (EPA + DHA) can curb stiffness and joint Pain.
Blood fat (Triglycerides)- Elevated triglycerides(Blood Fat) levels can be lowered by Fish oil supplements; as having high levels of this blood fat increases your risk of having Heart Disease.
Depression: Some Research have discovered that some culture that eat foods with high levels of omega-3s have lower levels of depression. Fish oil also seems to boost the effects of antidepressants and may help the depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder.
Baby development. DHA(Docosahexaenic Acid)appears to be important for visual and neurological development in infants.
Asthma: Asthma is a chronic lung disorder that causes airways (the tubes that carry air into and out of the lungs) to become inflamed, which means that they swell and produce lots of thick mucus. The muscles surrounding the airways also tend to tighten, which makes the already clogged airways even narrower.
A diet high in omega-3s lowers inflammation, a key component in asthma. But more studies are needed to show if fish oil supplements improve lung function or cut the amount of medication a person needs to control the condition.
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder): ADHD is a condition of the Brain that affects a Persons ability to Pay attention.It is mostly common in School Children.
Some studies show that fish oil can reduce the symptoms of ADHD in some children and improve their mental skills, like thinking, remembering, and learning. But research is still ongoing in this area, and omega-3 supplements should not be used as a primary treatment.
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia: Alzheimer’s disease (AD), also known as Alzheimer disease, or just Alzheimer’s, accounts for 60% to 70% of cases of dementia. It is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gets worse over time.
The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events (short-term memory loss). As the disease advances, symptoms can include: problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self care, and behavioural issues.
As a person’s condition declines, she or he often
withdraws from family and society. Gradually, bodily functions are lost, ultimately leading to death. Although the speed of progression can vary, the average life expectancy following diagnosis
is three to nine years.
Some research suggests that omega-3s may help protect against
Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and have a positive effect on gradual memory loss linked to aging. But that’s not certain yet.
OMEGA-6 FATTY ACID
Omega-6 fatty acids (also referred to as ω-6 fatty acids or n-6 fatty acids) are a family of
pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory polyunsaturated fatty acids, that have in common a final carbon-carbon double bond in the n-6 position, that is, the sixth bond, counting from the methyl end.
The biological effects of the omega-6 fatty acids are largely produced during & after physical activity.For the purpose of promoting growth, and during the inflammatory cascade to halt cell damage and promote cell repair by their conversion to omega-6 eicosanoids that bind to diverse receptors found in every tissue of the body.
Most health-conscious people already know about the broad-spectrum benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA/DHA from fish and other sources.
However, most diet in Countries like the United States contain too much omega-6 fatty acids. Hence, health-conscious individuals try to reduce this type of fat in their diet. Sources of excess omega-6s include most vegetable oils such as corn oil, safflower oil, soybean oil,as well as poultry and eggs.
There is one omega-6, however, called Gamma linolenic acid (GLA) with an impressive set of disease-fighting powers.
